The Cult Of Personality From The Ring to The Octagon
September 9th 2016
A 2 year oddesy comes to an end tomorrow night as the wait is finally over after delays , injuries and setbacks CM Punk will finally make his official UFC debut when he meets undefeated 2-0 fighter Mickey Gall at UFC 203.
As with any story there are always two sides on one side you have the WWE faithful waiting with eager anticipation for there Straight Edge Saviour make his triumphant debut and on the other side the Raucous UFC fans damned and determined to prove that a professional Wrestler with no MMA fights on his record wont stand a chance when he enters the confines of the octagon.
Lets start this breakdown with the 24-year-old Mickey Gall from New Jersey. Training out of Miller Brothers MMA this 5’11 welterweight went an impressive 3-0 in his mature career and remains undefeated in his pro career with 4 out of his 5 career wins coming by way of submission. This fight will be Gall’s second trip into the octagon with his lone UFC win coming back in February of this year when he submitted Mike Jackson By Rear Naked Choke at UFC Fight Night 82.
Now for the wild card Phil Brookes better known to fans around the world as CM Punk. The 6’2 Chicago native will be making his Mixed Martial Arts Debut on saturday night for Punk this is the fulfillment of a life long dream and for a man who spent most of his life traveling the world and competing at the highest level of professional Wrestling that is truly saying something. After a 15 year career in Pro Wrestling CM Punk decided to walk away from it all in 2014 at 35 years old to pursue his dream of competing in a different arena of combat the UFC. Punk will be entering the octagon saturday night at 37 years old with no MMA bouts on his record amature or otherwise.
The biggest question is what will Punk bring to the fight on saturday night ?
There have been several videos floating around the internet in recent months showing Punk literally getting beat up during training which has led many to the conclusion that he is just not ready for whats to come in his UFC debut and I personally hate to be the heart breaker and spoiler but this is my opinion.
Cm Punk has spent 2 years under the tutelage of Duke Roufus and the videos we have seen are in no way indicative of what I believe the man brings to the cage in fact i will go on record and say that the videos maybe the single biggest work in MMA history.Keep in mind that punk spent 15 years acting and portraying a character within the confines of the pro wrestling world he was at the top of the industry before he walked away could it be that those old acting skills have not diminished and that punk is simply sucking us back into the illusion that he is not even close to ready for this fight because lets keep it honest here there is no way you spend two years under Duke Roufus and show 0 improvement in your skills especially for a guy that already had an athletic background and if that was the case and you had made no improvement why would you let that footage be released to the public not to say that you don’t take your lumps in training but something just seems off concerning the footage.
There isn’t much more to say other than all these questions will be firmly answered saturday night at UFC 203 when CM Punk takes on Mickey Gall live from the Quickens Loan Arena in Cleveland Ohio and on Pay Per View.
